HDD or SSD
We all know that a laptop has built-in memory that can store photos, movies, documents, games, etc. It also stores the installed operating system.
This memory comes in three types:
- hard disk (HDD);
- solid state drive (SSD);
- hybrid hard drive (SSHD).
Hard drives appeared a long time ago, their main advantage is their large capacity (laptops, as a rule, have HDDs from 500 gigabytes to 2000, the most popular ones are 1000 GB).
They have 2 main disadvantages:

Pros of SSD:

- They are not afraid of moderate shocks and shaking (that is, when a laptop is hit, the SSD will not be a weak point and, perhaps, something else will break, not the SSD. If you have a HDD, after a shock, it will most likely be the first to come out he is the one who built it).
But there are some drawbacks - the cost of SSDs is much higher than hard drives (if you compare drives of the same capacity). Another dubious drawback that you can hear about is the limited resource for writing files to the SSD.
Hybrid hard drive - is a regular large-capacity hard drive plus a built-in small-capacity SSD drive (for example, 1000 GB HDD + 8 GB SSD). The system automatically transfers the most frequently used files to the small built-in SSD, which generally helps to significantly increase the speed of the laptop. Just like regular HDDs, they are afraid of shocks and shaking, but they work a little faster and are more expensive.
Intel continued to develop this idea and offered its drives – Intel Optane. Roughly speaking, this is a small SSD (16 or 32 GB), which is installed in conjunction with a regular hard drive; the system automatically transfers the most frequently used files to Intel Optane, due to which the overall speed of the laptop increases noticeably. Of course, a laptop with Intel Optane lags behind the speed of a laptop with a full-fledged SSD (at least 128 GB), so there is no point in buying Intel Optane, it is better to buy a regular SSD, but if you have a choice between a laptop with Intel Optane or without it at all and without an SSD, it is better to choose the option with Intel Optane (all other characteristics being equal).
So, HDD is slow, SSD is fast but expensive, how do manufacturers get out of the situation?
It’s very simple, they install only HDD in cheap laptop models, and in mid-price segment laptops they install a small SSD, usually 128 GB (the operating system and some resource-intensive programs or games are usually installed on it) + install a hard drive of 500 or 1000 GB (on which you can already store photos, movies, documents, games, etc.).
Also, some laptops in the mid-price segment are equipped with hybrid hard drives or hard drive + Intel Optane. But still, the SSD+HDD option is preferable.

In addition, it happens that in general some card from Nvidia wins in tests, but in a specific game you are playing, a card from Radeon produces slightly better performance than Nvidia. Therefore, first of all, you should focus on your needs.
