If you are on this page, then you know what self-hypnosis and immersion technique are. But for the rest of us, we need to explain a little what self-hypnosis is, how you can work with it and what you can use it for. But more on that below. A description of the technique itself is also below. If you need the equipment itself, scroll below.
What is self-hypnosis?
Self-hypnosis is a state between sleep and wakefulness. It is also called meditative. In this state, it is easy to use the resources of your subconscious, such as positive suggestions, psychotherapy, intuition, etc.
In a state of self-hypnosis, you can program yourself to have positive experiences. For example, with the help of the power of the unconscious, you can easily give up bad habits, lose weight, find meaning in life, and so on. The unconscious has an unlimited resource, and most importantly, it always wants to help us.
That is, any problem that you want to solve with the help of self-hypnosis, the unconscious will solve if you ask it to do so. If you don’t ask, then the decision won’t be made. Imagine that your unconscious is like a powerful computer that just needs to write a program and it will easily execute it. But the question is, how to write a program correctly? More on this below.
Self-hypnosis: what is the benefit of it?
Self-hypnosis is a technique that is absolutely safe for health and is effective for self-influence and mental self-regulation.
Immersion in your own inner world makes it possible to know yourself and fulfill any desire. After all, no one knows a person better than himself, and by nature, this knowledge is deeply hidden from us.
Self-hypnosis is the conscious, controlled ability of a person to immerse himself in a hypnotic state, as well as the ability to realize various phenomena characteristic of a hypnotic state. The technique of self-hypnosis must include a component called self-hypnosis.
Self-hypnosis is the introduction into the brain of figuratively imagined commands or attitudes against the background of a hypnotic state of consciousness. Read more about self-hypnosis in my article Self-hypnosis: how to do it correctly so that it works? As self-hypnosis, we can also use affirmations, which I wrote about in my articles:
Affirmations for love? Why not! What money affirmations really change reality?
Self-hypnosis is a whole mechanism that helps you independently manage physiological and mental processes, and do it consciously and for your own benefit.
By practicing self-hypnosis and self-hypnosis, a person receives a unique opportunity to program his own reality, fulfill desires, heal the body, and attract the right people and things.
This can only be done correctly by working with the subconscious, which is why the ability to put oneself into a trance state is desirable and useful.
Being in the moment between wakefulness and sleep, a person is freed from the factors that constrain him, the controlling function of consciousness is turned off, which will make it possible to focus on his desire and turn it into life.
What can self-hypnosis be used for?
Everything is the same as what I wrote above, but here’s a little more detail. I believe that a person is a little understudied in terms of the psyche and his resources. I am sure that a person has all the strength to become more successful, richer, has self-healing skills, spiritual past lives (if you believe in them).
Let me tell you about my experience, why I used self-hypnosis. I remember once I lost the TV remote control, I couldn’t find it for half a year. Not at all, I remember the last time I used it and that’s it. And then he just disappeared.

And so, I lie down on the bed, set the program to find bullets from the chick and the faster the better, I enter self-hypnosis for 30 minutes, completely switch off (yes, you can go deep like that), leave the meditative state and simply forget, and a week later I find my remote controller. Why in a week, I don’t know, but our unconscious needs time to rearrange the universe a little.
I really love self-hypnosis to quickly restore strength if I’m tired or haven’t slept much. In 30 minutes of rest, you feel as if you slept for 2-3 hours. For one thing, you can solve the problem while you are in self-hypnosis.
Blood pressure control? Yes Easy! We all experience changes in internal pressure and, accordingly, this makes us feel, to put it mildly, not very good. In self-hypnosis, you can ask your unconscious to equalize the pressure and improve your well-being.
I will warn, of course, that although working with the unconscious is a powerful tool, it is not a substitute for classical treatment.
The most important thing to work with the unconscious is psychotherapy. Healing from childhood traumas, I believe, is the most painstaking work on oneself if a person wants to achieve success, wealth and everything he wants. After all, if we don’t let go of everything that pulls us down from the past, it will be difficult to rise up.
Through communication with our inner self, it is easy to understand what we need. The main thing is to learn to listen to yourself, communicate with yourself, trust yourself and all the trump cards are in our hands.
Here we can describe for a long time why the unconscious can help us, but this is too long, we ourselves have plenty of resources, so we can experiment a little.
From the author
These methodological recommendations are intended both for specialists (psychiatrists, psychotherapists, clinical psychologists interested in teaching their patients methods of psychological self-help) and for people who want to learn how to manage their internal state and understand the secrets of self-management.
When I started practicing psychotherapy more than 30 years ago, the main method of mental self-regulation was autogenic training. The basic elements of the technique were muscle relaxation training and self-hypnosis. However, the duration of training for this procedure, its emotional unattractiveness, combined with the monotonous pronunciation of suggestion formulas and intellectual complexity repelled patients from it. The desire to give a sick person a method of immediate psychological self-help drew our attention to the method of self-hypnosis. The new technique quickly gained popularity and was accepted and recognized by the majority of patients, and a quarter of a century of experience in using this technique confirmed its high effectiveness.
How to program yourself before self-hypnosis?
The main rule is to be specific about what is needed. If you need to get up at 6.37 am, then ask yourself “I will get up on the morning of October 6, 2021 at 6.37 am.” You can’t ask yourself abstractly, like getting up earlier tomorrow. The unconscious needs a measure, such as date, quantity, exact time, color, additional parameters.
For example, a person has a request: I want to become a little richer. How much richer? For 1 ruble? So he became richer, all the requests were fulfilled. But if so, I become richer by 100,000 rubles, this is already specifics and the unconscious understands such specifics.
It is also necessary to abandon the word I want, simply because you can want all your life, replace it, for example, with I receive.
And also, it is necessary to write down the request in the present tense, no future or past, only here and now. Example, I am getting married to a blond man, 190 cm tall, weighing 95 kg, IQ 110, within 1 year from now. This is how our unconscious understands.
In short, before plunging into self-hypnosis, say to yourself exactly what you want, you can write it down on paper and read it. The unconscious will understand everything.
What can you achieve with self-hypnosis?
By putting yourself into a trance, you can solve any problems that are significant to you. At the same time, self-hypnosis is safe and anyone can use this technique. What problems can self-hypnosis using trance help with?
- Cope with stress, anxiety, tension, normalize sleep.
- Lose weight or get into the desired shape.
- Get rid of harmful addictions (to alcohol, tobacco or drugs).
- Change your opinion of yourself, gain confidence and high self-esteem.
- Find your meaning in life.
- Build relationships with others.
- Get out of depression, overcome melancholy and cope with the crisis.
- Develop your creativity.
- Improve memory, intuition, intelligence.
- Fulfill your own desire.
For ease of understanding
Look, a person has different senses to understand the designation: visually we designate it as B (V), we call everything we hear auditorily A, and we call all other olfactory and tactile senses kinesthetics K.
Psychologists would NOT want you to know these secrets about yourself
—Imagine this situation...
What if, instead of paying for years for useless consultations with a psychologist, in 21 days you can work with yourself? Get rid of negative thoughts and states forever. And instead live a calm and happy life? Stop living in stress due to relationships or constant lack of money?
Tell me this is impossible?
I thought so too, until I started working with myself
LIVING HAPPY IS EASY
My name is Ivan, I am 35 years old, and I have been practicing psychology for 15 years. I have studied all the basic methods and techniques through which I help people find happiness. NLP, hypnosis, body-image therapy. I was invited on television as an expert.
And it was... just a nightmare!
I lived in a state of depression for 7 years (constant stress exhausted me). I had a lot of low self-confidence (my self-esteem was below 0). I could not calmly communicate with people, it seemed to me that I was not worthy of them.
The relationship did not work out (because I was very negative, jealous, a doormat). I’m generally silent about decent earnings; I earned 15,000 rubles a month and thought that was the limit. I didn’t want to live... Envy.
The worst thing is, I thought I would have to live like this forever, and I don’t deserve love and happiness.
But it only got worse, negative states fell on me like a snowball. It felt like I was sitting in a deep, black hole from which there was no way out. Hopelessness, despair, pain, resentment.
My life has turned into endless torture. But then a miracle happened...
I FOUND THE KEY... EVERYONE HAS IT...
One day my father came home from work, a little drunk, although he never drank much.
He came into the kitchen..., looked at me with a dissatisfied expression and began to say with anger how worthless I was, how I couldn’t do anything, and in general, how sorry he was that he was my father.
At first I felt severe mental pain (this is very painful to hear from my family). Then I got offended (does that mean I’m not a favorite son?!) And then an insight came to me...
I received that magical kick that I had been waiting for all my life. It changed my thinking, my life and my relationships with my environment.
I had already forgiven my father simply because he told me the truth and I was happy about it!
But then the most interesting thing began...
Literally 5 minutes later I was already sitting at the computer and writing out all the psychological (!) methods of working with myself.
I was even confused, because my plans were to continue to suffer all my life.
It was such an incredible feeling of freedom and desire to do something that I burst into tears of happiness.

Definition and meaning of the concept
Self-hypnosis is the influence on one’s own consciousness and subconscious through various methods. It can be either conscious or not. With the help of self-hypnosis, you can introduce various attitudes and programs into the psyche that will help increase efficiency, improve mental and physical health, and achieve the desired results.
Scientists became seriously interested in the phenomenon of self-hypnosis in the middle of the last century. The French psychologist and pharmacist Emile Coue is considered a pioneer in the study of this phenomenon. He noticed that the psychological mood of patients largely determines the course of the disease.
People who believed in a favorable outcome recovered much faster and easier than those who were pessimistic. The opposite effect also applies. A healthy person can easily get sick if he makes himself feel unwell.
Self-hypnosis underlies such an effect as a placebo. When unsuspecting patients were given “dummy” drugs instead of real drugs, they often turned out to be no less effective and speeded up recovery.
John Kehoe is considered the most famous popularizer of self-hypnosis. His book “The Subconscious Mind Can Do Anything” created a real sensation after its publication. The techniques described in it are incredibly simple, and the narrative is replete with many vivid and surprising examples that prove their effectiveness. However, the mass euphoria from reading the book very soon gave way to disappointment. People bitterly stated that their desires were not fulfilled and self-hypnosis did not work.
Why did it happen? Obviously, they began to expect too much from self-hypnosis, as from a magic pill. People took the method too literally and took it to the point of absurdity. I personally know several comrades who happily abandoned everything they were doing and began to fanatically engage in self-hypnosis. While they were visualizing their desires, without doing anything concrete to achieve, their lives fell into disrepair.

Today, the attitude towards self-hypnosis is more equal and adequate. But the risk of falling into the same trap still remains. Therefore, you need to approach this process wisely.
The simplest self-hypnosis technique (diagram)
Now to the actual matter. Now I will briefly describe the essence of the matter, and then in more detail.
We need to load our senses in order to distract our consciousness so that the unconscious will take over and we can communicate with it.
Before the dive we say the following phrase: dear unconscious, I enter a state of self-hypnosis for exactly 30 minutes in order to solve my problem (here you describe the problem you want to solve, how to formulate the problem, described above). ALL.
We get comfortable and don’t move. We find 3 visual points, look at one for 10-20 seconds (no need to count to yourself, the time of concentration on a point is not important, just look until you get tired), at the second for 10-20 seconds, at the third for 10-20 seconds. Don't rush, there's enough time. When to move your gaze from one point to another, you will understand intuitively.
Next, we concentrate on any first sound (heartbeat, noise outside the window, the computer is running, neighbors are talking) for 10-20 seconds, move on to any second sound for 10-20 seconds, to the third for 10-20 seconds. There are no problems with sounds; we are constantly surrounded by many sounds.

Next, we move on to kinesthetics: we transfer our attention to any touch, for example a chain, presses on the neck for 10-20 seconds, the hand feels the sofa for 10-20 seconds, the taste of saliva for 10-20 seconds.
We are transferred again to the visual points, but this time to two, not three. We look at one point for 10-20 seconds, at the second point for 10-20 seconds.
We turn our attention to sound 1 for 10-20 seconds, sound 2 for 10-20 seconds.
We turn our attention to kinesthetics, 1st sensation 10-20 seconds, 2nd sensation 10-20 seconds.
We return again to visual points, look at one point for 10-20 seconds
We hear one sound for 10-20 seconds
We feel one thing for 10-20 seconds.
Self-hypnosis methods
From the entire classification of self-hypnosis methods, let's look at a few basic techniques and try to put them into practice.
Affirmations
The essence of this technique is the repeated repetition of a specially composed phrase in order to strengthen it in the subconscious and make it work for you. This is the simplest method that does not require any special training from you. You just need to know a few important rules.
So, think about what you would like to improve with the help of self-hypnosis. Once again, I repeat that you should not set goals that go far beyond your boundaries. This method works great when achieving a goal depends entirely on you, and is practically useless when the leverage is in the hands of other people.
Now you need to express your desire in one key phrase. Formulate the idea beautifully and concisely so that it can be used to persuade. And now the very rules I was talking about.
- The sentence should not contain the particle “not”
The fact is that the subconscious concentrates on keywords and ignores the “not” particle. It turns out that instead of the phrase “I don’t get upset over trifles,” the subconscious hears “I get upset over trifles” and perceives it as a statement of fact.
Incorrect: “I will not give up on my goal.”
Correct: “I will achieve everything I want.”
- Focus on the outcome you want, not the problem that's bothering you.
The principle is the same here. Don't overload your subconscious with negative images. Therefore, avoid wording such as “get rid of”, “stop”, “eradicate”, etc.
Incorrect: “I will get rid of irritability.”
Correct: “I am calm and balanced.”
- The phrase should be short and succinct
When formulating affirmations, avoid participial and participial phrases, complex sentences, and overloaded semantic structures. It will be difficult for the subconscious to decipher them.
Incorrect: “By working out at the gym, I become slimmer every day.”
Correct: “I am becoming slim and attractive.”
Autogenic training
The autogenic training method was invented by German psychiatrist Johann Schulz in 1932. The method is based on observations of people in an altered state of consciousness, i.e. in a trance. The scientist came to the conclusion that all trance states are characterized by similar manifestations: relaxation, a feeling of peace, increased suggestibility and increased imagination.
Schultz created a special set of exercises with which you can consciously enter a trance and regulate your psychophysiological state. It has been proven that autogenic training normalizes the emotional background, strengthens a person’s volitional abilities, and increases endurance. And that's not all! It can be used for self-hypnosis and active influence on the subconscious.
The scope of autogenic training is very wide. It is used in medicine, sports, military affairs, aviation and space industries, etc. Let’s try to master this unique method.
Do the following exercises:
- Take a comfortable position, relax and mentally say several times: “I am completely calm.” Then concentrate on the sensations in your right hand (for left-handed people - in the left) and say: “My right hand is very heavy.” Try to create a distinct feeling of heaviness in your hand using your imagination. Imagine that there is some heavy object in your hand and it is pulling it down. When you can feel the heaviness in one hand, do the same with the other hand, then with the legs and the whole body.
- When you master the first exercise, you can move on to the second. It is important that the order be exactly like this. Now, using a similar scheme, we work with the sensation of warmth. Repeat mentally: “My right hand is getting warmer.” Try to feel this clearly. You can imagine exposing your hand to the sun's rays or plunging it into hot water. Do the same with the other arm, legs, whole body.
- Next comes an exercise to control your heart rate. Take a horizontal position, place your right hand on the heart area and mentally say several times: “My heart beats calmly and evenly.” There is no need to force this process and try to directly influence the heart. Just repeat the phrase to yourself and relax. If you are a person who is too nervous and easily excitable, if, on the contrary, your heart begins to beat faster, then it is better to abandon this exercise altogether and move on to the next one.
- Now let's move on to the breathing control exercise. Say several times: “My breathing is calm and easy.” Feel the rhythm of your breathing slow down.
It will take approximately two weeks to master each exercise. That is, first you practice feeling heaviness for two weeks, then two weeks - heaviness and warmth, then heaviness, warmth and heart rate control. And so on.
Visualization
Visualization is a method of self-hypnosis using images generated by the mind. A very popular method in modern psychology. Its essence is to create the image of what you want in your head as clearly and accurately as possible.
Many successful people admit that they achieved high results thanks, in part, to visualization. Among them are Oprah Winfrey, Jim Carrey, Will Smith and others. There are widely known cases where visualization has helped people cope with incurable diseases. The doctors had no choice but to throw up their hands and admit that a miracle had happened.
Let's look at the basic rules that will help you get the most out of your visualization:
- Images should be as vivid and emotionally rich as possible. Try to immerse yourself in the situation and live it in your head. Connect sensations from all senses.
- You must be inside the situation, and not look at it from the outside. That is, during the visualization process you should not see yourself.
- Don't try too hard during visualization. The process should happen easily and naturally. If at a particular moment you can’t do it, don’t force your brain. Set aside until next time.
- During the visualization process, you will experience very real emotional reactions. But at the same time, you should not forget that the desired result still exists only in your imagination. Under no circumstances should it be appropriated and used to feed self-esteem. Otherwise, every time after a visualization session it will be very difficult for you to return to reality.
Meditation
Meditation is a universal method that contains elements of all the previous ones. With its help, you can regulate the internal processes of the body, control streams of consciousness, and get rid of unnecessary thoughts. You can combine reading mantras, autogenic training, and visualization with meditation.
I suggest you learn a simple meditation using a video.
And if you suddenly decide to take meditation seriously, take a look at our selection of special courses.
Positive thinking
Positive thinking is not exactly a self-hypnosis technique in the traditional sense. This is the habit of thinking positively and blocking negativity. We have already found out that thoughts shape our reality, so we need to be able to filter them.
It wouldn’t occur to anyone to deliberately program themselves for failure, right? But many people do just that. From morning to evening, they spin destructive thoughts and images in their heads, unaware of the unpleasant consequences this entails.
At the beginning of the article, I wrote that self-hypnosis can be unconscious. Whether you like it or not, any thought you have can become decisive. Positive thinking will help minimize the risk of destructive self-suggestions from bad thoughts.
Like developing any habit, it will take you about 3 weeks to develop a positive mindset. Then it will no longer be difficult for you to control your thought flow. But at the initial stage you will have to work hard.
How to remove negative thoughts from your head? Keep your consciousness under constant control. As soon as some nasty thought tries to sneak into your brain, cut off all the ends and do not allow it to take root. You can distract yourself with something easy: watching funny videos, listening to your favorite music, repeating the mantras from the first point. The main thing is to have time to track this very initial moment, when she is still weak and has not acquired emotions.
Also take a look at our selection of courses on developing emotional intelligence.
CLOSE YOUR EYES!!!
Now everything is the same, but we imagine it.
We visualize any 1 item. Apple, car, Keanu Reeves 10-20 seconds
We remember any sound, meowing, a cow mooing, a dog barking, the voice of a favorite actor for 10-20 seconds.
We imagine any sensation, for example, how the wind blows in your face for 10-20 seconds.
We return to the visual, imagine 1 any object for 10-20 sec, 2 any object for 10-20 sec
Imagine any 2 sensations for 10-20 seconds.
And again we return to the visual part, present any 3 objects in turn for 10-20 seconds
Any sounds in turn for 10-20 seconds
Any 3 sensations in turn for 10-20 seconds.
Usually people fail here already. But in reality they just dive very deep. If before entering self-hypnosis you programmed yourself for the duration of the session, for example 30 minutes, then you will wake up exactly 30 minutes later. Marvelous.

How to correctly develop a formula for self-hypnosis?
You can create a phrase to fulfill your wishes either independently or take a ready-made one from the Internet. The advantages of the first formula are that it will suit you best, and therefore will work much faster. How to compose it correctly?
• Be sure to wish for something positive. The installation should inspire joy and complete acceptance. This means that the wording does not go against your lifestyle and beliefs.
• Avoid the “not.” Our brain does not perceive negative particles well, so it is better to do without them (instead of “I am not poor”, use “My income is constantly growing” or “I am rich”).
• The formulation should not cause internal rejection or contradiction. For example, you are sick and do not accept the phrase “I am healthy,” then you can replace it with “Every day my health is improving.”
• Create a post-hypnotic phrase that will help you realize your desire. For example, if you want to lose weight, the suggestion could be: “I monitor my physical activity and exercise at least three times a week.”

How do you go into trance on your own?
In essence, it is not very different from hypnosis induced by a professional. You fix your attention on an action or object, gradually relax (release every muscle in your body from tension), then close your eyes and inspire yourself with certain attitudes. You put yourself into “sleep”. This is a relaxed state of consciousness, at this time the subconscious begins to work. He knows no prohibitions or doubts from the outside world, which is why it is easy to lay down any program. Often, after such a lesson, practitioners do not remember anything. During suggestion, only the subconscious absorbs everything. Then the person gradually achieves what was in that very program.
Coming out of a trance state
It’s not so difficult to learn self-hypnosis on your own, but to get yourself out of it, without consequences for your own well-being. Relaxation techniques have been invented by various practitioners to enable the body to emerge from trance rested, alert, full of strength and energy. We need a setup that will allow us to get out of the state of hypnosis without any problems. For starters, it could be a timer set for a certain time. At his signal, the body and consciousness should immediately return to physical reality.
The technique of self-hypnosis can look intimidating when first mastered. Coming out of trance will not be as fast as you would like. The brain should wake up and work in standard mode.
Hypnotic sleep or deep trance requires time to recover. This usually takes up to 30 minutes.
Reasons why the technique does not work
Many people complain that self-hypnosis does not help them at all. Like, this is all nonsense, designed for fools. In fact, the effectiveness of this procedure has been proven by both psychologists and self-hypnosis adherents.
There are many reasons why such suggestion does not work, but here are just the most common ones:
- the person does not believe in the real effectiveness of the technique;
- he refers to it occasionally and does not practice it every day;
- a person is not 100% focused, he is constantly distracted by something;
- he cannot accurately formulate his desires and needs;
- the person does not comply with the above stages of self-hypnosis.
The success of self-hypnosis almost half depends on the person himself. Is he focused enough? What does he devote his thoughts to during this period of self-immersion?
Sometimes the problem lies in basic ignorance of oneself. A person inspires himself with the idea of the need to develop a career, but in reality he dreams of children and a large family. As a result, the desired and the suggested enter into dissonance with each other, and a person’s dreams remain dreams.
If the procedure is performed frequently, the person is well aware of his needs, the result will definitely be noticeable.
It is important to understand that self-hypnosis will not start working immediately, on the very first day of your acquaintance with it. As in any other matter, practice is needed here to help you comprehend yourself and plunge into the depths of consciousness.
Getting to know self-hypnosis is unlikely to be simple and easy. Usually a person does not immediately begin to believe in the effectiveness of such a technique. When his wishes suddenly begin to come true, the advantages of self-hypnosis become more and more obvious. All that remains is to take the remaining steps towards your dream and make it come true.
