They also add “a look like an x-ray” or “looked into the soul.” And indeed, wise people seem to read other people’s thoughts or understand more about their interlocutor than he understands about himself. Where is psychological insight useful?
This ability to quickly assess a person’s inner world, impress him and manipulate his interlocutor is rather part of the profession of a psychologist, personnel officer, manager, teacher, doctor, journalist. But outside the profession, another phrase is more often used - worldly wisdom.
Worldly wisdom does not depend on “bare” intellect and is not always associated with education - you may not know the ABC book, but you can literally see right through those around you. There is scientific evidence for this statement. Canadian researchers from the University of Waterloo found that “worldly wisdom” is more often demonstrated by residents with below-average income. It turns out that they are more competent in interpersonal matters. So, from the point of view of worldly wisdom, an insightful person is a person without doctoral degrees, but with an open-minded attitude towards something and the ability to consider a problem from different points of view.
Worldly wisdom is a diploma of intelligence, which is given to a person with extensive life experience - not only his personal, but the experience of his ancestors. Indeed, in addition to personal observations, it includes proverbs, beliefs, aphorisms, stories and other knowledge about the laws of life. Unlike scholarship, life wisdom does not come from books, but is tested in practice. And it is always seasoned with a dose of humor. Because the ability to notice funny features and wrap them in sparkling anecdotes or aphorisms is another component of insight.
Virgo
Alert and observant, she sees everything and remembers everything. Her powers of observation are so incredible that they surpass her intuition. This is Sherlock Holmes in a skirt. And Virgo also knows how to systematize, classify people, and immediately divide them into species and types. Surprisingly it works! Of course, we all consider ourselves unique, one and only. The standard train of thought leads to the expected results. It is important to change the habit of thinking in patterns to discover your abilities. Practice this. Do not judge others harshly, do not try to make a hasty conclusion regarding the current situation. If hypothetically it is possible to assume an alternative version of the development of circumstances, there is no need to discard it in favor of the most probable in your opinion.
“A discerning and learned mind”: translation and interpretation of the Epistle to the Romans by Archbishop. Methodius (Smirnova)
It is St. John Chrysostom that Archbishop Methodius (Smirnov) chooses as an example of a true and spiritual interpreter. In the Preface to the Epistle of the Holy Apostle Paul to the Romans with Interpretation, the hierarch, church historian, philologist and translator, o9.
Further, Archbishop Methodius gives a lengthy footnote in which he writes: “Here, firstly

Obviously, Bishop Methodius does not quote the saint of Constantinople, as one might expect, but gives his own interpretation. He also points to the image of the Old Testament righteous man Moses, but understands him, rather in an allegorical sense, as the giver of the law. At the same time, the law is, as it were, opposed to the teaching that was taught by the Savior Himself. This is also indirect evidence of the reason for the name change: Saul, who lived by the law, becomes Paul, who surrendered himself into the hands of the Lord. This approach may indicate a certain disposition of Bishop Methodius towards the exegesis of the Alexandrian school, but, of course, not in its pure form. Apparently, he was close in spirit to the exegetical method of St. Gregory the Theologian, who often resorted to the technique of allegory, but based on common sense11. It is no coincidence that the archbishop lists him among those interpreters who should be an example for Christians in the study of the Holy Scriptures (see above).
The most sacred duty of every interpreter of Scripture is to go deeper and deeper into it, to look for the highest mysterious wisdom in it and to rummage through it with an exploratory thought, as in an inexhaustible rich mine, in order to bring out from its deep bowels hidden treasures of gold or divine, heavenly things hidden in it and invisible to the world. truth
It is noteworthy that the title of the Savior, highlighted in italics in the publication as “Author of faith and Finisher,” is presented in this way for a reason. This expression is a quote from another letter of the Apostle Paul - the letter to the Hebrews (Heb. 12:2). Fluency in the text of the Holy Scriptures testifies to the well-read nature of Bishop Methodius. Here it is appropriate to remember that Metropolitan Platon (Levshin) called Archbishop Methodius “an insightful and learned mind”12.
The above quotation about the naming of the Savior is important for Bishop Methodius, apparently, also because it affirms the foundation of faith, the theme of which is the theme of the apostle’s word addressed to the faithful Romans. Holy fathers and interpreters, explaining the meaning contained in the words of the Apostle o13. Blessed Theophylact of Bulgaria emphasizes even greater evidence of what the apostle said about Christ as the founder of the faith in his interpretation of this verse of the letter: “What do the words mean: leader and perfecter? That is, He Himself implanted faith in us from the beginning: for it was not you who chose Me, he says, but I who chose you (John 15:16). He himself will perfect it so that you may have the most perfect faith.”14
Noting that both interpreters, when commenting on this verse, turn to the corresponding other words of the Holy Scripture of the New Testament, it should be noted that their interpretations are fully consistent with the meaning of the words naming Christ, which are used in the Greek text of the message: εως ἀρχηγὸν
καὶ τελειωτὴν
Ἰησοῦν, where ἀρχηγὸς “being the original, serving as the first cause”15, and τελειωτής “finisher, fulfiller” is a unique word associated specifically with the New Testament era and found only in the indicated verse16.
It seems that it is precisely this deep content of this verse of the Epistle to the Hebrews that served as the reason for its inclusion in the interpretation of another apostolic scripture, revealing the essence of the ministry of the Apostle Paul. This vivid example of exegesis shows how Archbishop Methodius himself, based on the patristic, gives his own sufficient interpretation of the words of the Apostle Paul. Perhaps Vladyka Methodius, a translator and interpreter, was guided by the same thoughts as the Apostle Paul when writing his epistle, namely, he wanted to emphasize his calling to preach the word of God. It is interesting to note that Archbishop Methodius allegedly follows the logic of interpretation of St. John Chrysostom; for example, he cites quotations from the same books of Holy Scripture to which St. John Chrysostom drew attention, but he cites completely different parallel passages, which also testifies to his independence interpretation. Thus, pointing to the well-known events of the book of Acts associated with the Apostle Paul, he refers readers to the moment of his election, set out in the ninth chapter, and brings the central point of the Lord’s speech to Ananias - about the election of Paul (Acts 9:15). It is noteworthy that St. John Chrysostom also spoke about the election of Paul in his interpretation, testifying to the command of the Holy Spirit: separate Paul and Barnabas.
(Acts 13:2)17. In his interpretation, Bishop Methodius in the margin also points to another place that reveals the essence of the apostolic service to Christ. This is a reference to the second letter to the Corinthians, cf. 2 Cor. 8:19, 23 and 15. It is difficult to say why the listed verses do not follow in direct order, but it is significant that verse 15 is a quote by the Apostle Paul from the book of Exodus (Exodus 16:18), which tells of God giving manna to the murmuring Israelites.

By carefully studying what the interlocutor said, it is possible to understand the correctness or error of his actions, mentally recreating the basis of actions in a similar situation. During dialogue, it is also important to pay attention to the movements and gestures of the interlocutor. They are the ones who can largely reveal the falsity of the speaker’s words.
