A story from my intuitive experience

Many years ago, I had the opportunity to verify from my own experience the effectiveness of this algorithm, although at that time I didn’t even think about it. So, one day, and this was back in Soviet times, I bought a train ticket for my daughter-in-law on the route: Simferopol-Odessa, and her trip was postponed for several days. Therefore, the purchased ticket was actually bought in vain and should have simply been scrapped.

It was possible, of course, to return the ticket to the ticket office and lose 20% of its value, or try to sell it to someone directly upon the arrival of the train, although the probability of this event was infinitesimal.

As a rule, an hour before the arrival of this train there were almost never any tickets and everyone in need in all cases left without tickets, having agreed with one of the train conductors. But nevertheless, a firm decision was made to go to the station and sell my ticket for its full price.

I remember that in response to my daughter-in-law’s objections regarding the success of this operation, I told her that this simply could not happen without a student who was late for the train, who urgently needed to get to Odessa, not showing up and buying our ticket.

And so that she would not doubt the truth of my words, I suggested that instead of playing the role of an interested participant in the “railway syndicate,” she should spend a little time as an outside observer and, so to speak, a witness to upcoming important events.

And now we are already at the station and I am making another attempt to sell my ill-fated ticket. As luck would have it, this time for our train in the direction of Odessa at the ticket office there are tickets, as they say, for every taste and color. Moreover, it was still an hour before the train arrived at the station.

Therefore, people calmly approach the ticket office and freely buy tickets in the direction they need. There is less and less time left before the train arrives, and my daughter-in-law’s mood is deteriorating more and more every minute.

Now the train has already arrived at the station (and the stop is only two minutes), and there are no more people willing to leave on this train, and tickets are still available at the ticket office. In general, all that remains is to do as the song says: “Take your overcoat and let’s go home.”

This is exactly what could have been done if a young man, flushed from fast walking, had not suddenly appeared, literally flew into the station building and took the queue at the ticket office. As one might have guessed, he was that late student who urgently needed to go to Odessa.

For the rest of my life I remembered the eyes of my daughter-in-law, expressing extreme surprise at everything that was happening. Even after many years, at the mere mention of a ticket to Odessa, her face always takes on the same surprised expression.

This is how I encountered the manifestation of intuition in my life. Moreover, we must say all three of its types at once. Of course, this was not the only case in my practice, since to one degree or another, intuition is, one might say, a constant companion on my life’s path.

And I told about that distant incident simply because it turned out to be very vivid and memorable for me. And in addition to everything, he became a living example of exactly how intuition can operate in the life of almost any person.

Architecture of Intelligence

To understand what the nature of intuition is within the framework of the theory of the evolution of intelligence, let us first consider the historically established architecture of human intelligence postulated by TEI.

Since we can judge the intelligence of living beings mainly by its manifestations, and the manifestations of intelligence themselves in their totality give rise to behavior, it would be quite appropriate to divide the manifestations of intelligence according to the various sources of an individual’s behavior. TEI proposes to divide intelligence into 5 large sections, fundamentally different in their functionality.

    Historically, the most ancient division of human intelligence is responsible for following the unchanging strategic goals of an individual’s life, strictly determined by his biological species.

  • reflex behavior

    The division of intelligence responsible for typical responses. It is very efficient, but not very intellectual. Its typical manifestation is accompanied by the motto: “First we did it, then we thought.” In situations where you need to react quickly and have no time to think, it comes in handy, for example, when you need to instantly pull your hand away from the fire. It is not innate, like instinctive, but acquired during the life of an individual.

  • individual behavior

    This division of intelligence is responsible for a set of typical reactions and habits that make the bearer of intelligence recognizable in addition to his appearance.

  • communicative behavior

    The division of intelligence responsible for how and in what manner an individual communicates in a group. For example, when you need to determine who will be in charge in the group and whether this is fair, how to coordinate your actions with other members of the group, how to warn them about danger or how not to pass the group by lucrative perks, and much more related to relationships in the group.

  • reasonable behavior

    This division is associated with abstract logical thinking. What we are actually accustomed to traditionally calling intelligence.

However, if intelligence is only a product of abstract logical thinking, then what about the other divisions? This is where TEI proposes to expand the definition of intelligence so that it covers all the divisions mentioned above. Predictive models

How did this division of intelligence appear in living beings? Most likely, from the vital need of these creatures for predictions. Any predator needs to be able to accurately predict where it will land as a result of a jump, otherwise it will miss and be left without food.

However, an individual’s intelligence cannot do without just one predictive model for all immediately surrounding predators (or herbivores) if he wants to predict everyone well at once. This means that a set of models is needed, and this in turn requires the correct comparison of each predictive model with the observed phenomenon of the surrounding world. Then the division of individual behavior is also supplemented with cognitive functionality .

Let us also note that the result of the model’s prediction is expressed non-verbally, in the form of a certain feeling of correctness that is difficult to express in words. For example, the correctness of the throw or the correctness of the choice.

What does all this have to do with intuition? The most direct. Let us recall such signs of intuition as non-verbality [in the form of a certain sensation] and a correct forecast of what will happen in the future. Thus, a certain part (if not all) of the manifestations of intuition can be safely attributed to the work of a very archaic, but extremely useful subdivision of the intellect in constructing and selecting predictive models of the world surrounding the individual.

What role does it play in life?

If we talk about the role the gift of foresight plays in our lives, then I can say that it is very significant, since it helps to prevent many mistakes and disappointments, often saving lives. I’m sure everyone knows about such cases when a person, without realizing it and without any reasoning for his decision, cancels a trip, and subsequently finds out that an accident occurred and no one survived from his flight.

In such cases, a physical “sense” is more often triggered, and manifests itself in the form of malaise, a cold, which is why you have to stay at home. This is such a legal excuse. Not every person can follow his desires as soon as he pleases; work and family obligations do not allow him to simply say: “I won’t go on a business trip, because it seems that something bad will happen.” Agree, he will not work for the company for long then.
