Today, active Internet users have ample opportunities for self-development at home. A huge number of varied training programs, designed in the form of exciting games, allow you to acquire new skills without nerves and extra expenses. Today we will look at the most successful representatives of this area.
Rocksmith
- Website: https://rocksmith.ru/
Guitar teacher. Unfortunately, for it to work, you will need to spend almost six thousand rubles on an adapter cable to connect the guitar to the computer (it allows you to connect to Xbox and PS3/4 consoles). The developer claims that their software makes it possible to learn basic skills in just two months. Once you install Rocksmith , choose the level that suits you best so you don't have to do what you learned on your own. The image of a real bar, which is displayed on the screen, allows you to understand exactly what tasks a particular level poses for you. The graphic component is at a high level.
Inside the program there is a special mode - GuitarCade, where you play a variety of small games. Control is carried out through the guitar. Such classes help you to handle the instrument more confidently, as they force you to work without looking at the fingerboard and strings. For the most active users, Rocksmith also hosts various events (promotions and competitions), where you can receive memorable gifts.
Board games
Chess
And the first of these games is chess. Truly a brilliant game in which you will need logic, the ability to build a strategy, and predict your opponent’s next moves. This game is a wonderful way to develop intellectual abilities regardless of age. The game takes place on a board lined with 64 squares of black and white colors. Each opponent has 16 pieces at his disposal: 8 pawns, 2 rooks, 2 knights, 2 bishops, a queen and a king.
The goal of the game is to checkmate the opponent's king, that is. attack the king so that he has nowhere to run. A very useful activity that will help you improve your memory, logic, ability to build a strategy, the ability to predict enemy moves, and calculate several moves ahead. The game ends if the king cannot move and is attacked by an enemy piece. We recommend Chess for you and your child.
Domino
By playing dominoes, a child will be able to learn counting series and addition, and you can also teach him to determine where there is more and where there is less. Dominoes will help your child understand which number is greater and which is less relative to a given one. By playing this game regularly, you will help consolidate your child’s knowledge in these disciplines.
Mahjong
An excellent educational game for children is the card game Mahjong. The game is of Chinese origin and widely played in Asia. A relatively young game, it appeared about 1.5 centuries ago. The game itself is entertainment, but besides this, it improves logical thinking, observation, teaches you to analyze the situation, gives you the opportunity to build your own game strategies, and so on... The main task of the players is to score the most points by collecting the most valuable combination from a given number of dice .
Yousician
- Website: yousician.com
Another version of the program that teaches you how to play musical instruments. True, in addition to guitar and bass, you can also play the ukulele or piano. The free-to-play model limits you only in that scoring performance is only available for one hour per day. But no one forbids you to train inside the game, even for days on end. You can always choose the song you like and study its performance in training mode. Yousician not only teaches you how to play notes and chords correctly, but also forces you to follow the rhythm. If you don't hit the beat, then completing the levels will become an impossible task.
Unfortunately, one of the most important advantages of the game is also a disadvantage - Yousician receives sound from you through a regular microphone. You can use a regular smartphone for learning. As a result, noticeable errors appear. If you have reached at least an average level, you will notice that Yousician considers your play correct even in those moments when you make mistakes. A “dirty” game here will pass for a clean one, and this is not very good from the point of view of serious learning.
For independent work
This game will help “pump up” your creative thinking, plus there is a high probability that you will find a solution to some problem or difficulty in the process. The conditions are simple: when you are relaxed, think about some of your dreams, then look around and fix your gaze on one object.
Now try to formulate a question about how with the help of this object you will realize what you want. For example, you want a car, you saw a phone and asked yourself: “What can I do with the phone now to buy a car?”
Let’s say you remember that a friend is selling his “iron horse”, call him and ask about the cost. After which a new goal is formed - to earn a certain amount of money. You look around for something and come across a window. Now you formulate the question a little differently: “What can I do with the window now to earn such and such an amount of money?” And you realize that you can earn extra money by installing windows. And so on.
Keyboard solo
- Website: https://solo.nabiraem.ru/
What skill is taken for granted by all modern people today? Of course, fast typing on the keyboard. Being able to type quickly, and touch-type, is extremely useful. Fast typing makes it easy and fun to deal with large amounts of routine manual work. Writing articles, reports and any other working documentation will no longer be a problem for you. By confidently typing two hundred or more characters per minute, you will save a lot of time, which you can spend on much more enjoyable activities.
By the way, Solo on the keyboard is completely free and allows you to learn to type with various layouts. You will be able to confidently work not only with Russian texts, but also with English ones. The learning process will not cause difficulties, and you will be able to feel the effect just a few days after starting classes.

Alexander weighs half as much as Dmitry, and Nikolai weighs 3 times more than Alexander. Try to determine how much each of them weighs, if all together they weigh 360 kilograms?
Answer
Nikolay = 180kg, Dmitry = 120kg, Alexander = 60kg. Solution: let Alexander's weight = x (x), then Dmitry's weight = 2x, and Nikolai's weight = 3x. Therefore we get the equation: (x + 2x + 3x) = 360kg. Equivalent to: 6x = 360kg, from where x = (360kg: 6) = 60kg. After this, the weight of each of them is easily calculated.

Solitaire games
When we need to switch, out of habit, we open our favorite solitaire game and almost automatically lay out the cards. Without realizing it, we are engaged in relaxation, after a couple of layouts, the view of the problems becomes clearer, and original solutions to complex issues are found by themselves.
- We isolate ourselves from strangers for a while and put our emotions in order.
- When selecting expedient moves, we are inevitably distracted from real problems.
- Monotonous mouse movements are as calming as fingering a rosary.
Solitaire games are priceless - they entertain, relax and sharpen your thinking abilities at the same time.
Spider is a classic solitaire game loved by many for its moderate difficulty. The cards are not always laid out, a few mistakes - and everything has to start from the beginning.
Rules of the game
Ten columns of cards are play cards, another five piles are reserve ones, they are used when the moves end.
- On the card of higher value you need to put the lower one.
- You can move cards one at a time or in incomplete groups. For example, attach a four or three to a five.
- You need to collect sets of cards from king to two, the last card is an ace. The finished set is removed from the table.
- If you play several suits, you can add cards of any suits in descending order. But a group of the same suit is considered assembled.
- When you run out of turns, click on the reserve deck to reveal 10 new cards.
You can play solitaire the old fashioned way - with a deck on the table, but this has already become very rare. It is much more convenient to use the online game "Spider", just click here.
Screeps
- Website: screeps.com
A game that allows you to control your own virtual world through JavaScript programming. In fact, this is a training sandbox where the user is asked to lead a colony by programming its AI population.
A fairly simply designed traditional strategy differs from most others, perhaps, in its management. Your colony is located in a common world, along with other, competing settlements. Operating around the clock, the game assumes the possibility of any incidents in your absence, so you need to accurately prescribe protective algorithms in case of unforeseen situations.
Unfortunately, here you will not be taught programming in the literal sense. After all, the user must be familiar with JavaScript if he wants to start his journey in Screeps . There is no training here to help people unfamiliar with programming learn the basics. So before you start managing your own world, you will have to gain practical and theoretical knowledge.
Logic is the science of conceptual thinking.
Logic, as a science of thinking, was born more than 2 thousand years ago in Ancient Greece. At the same time, the main types of logical thinking were described and the laws of logic were formulated, which remain unshakable to this day.
Two types of thinking: deduction and induction
The elementary unit of abstract-logical thinking is the concept. Several concepts combined into a coherent thought is a judgment. They are affirmative and negative. For example:
- “In autumn, the leaves fly off the trees” - affirmative.
- “There are no leaves on the trees in winter” – negative.
Judgments can also be true or false. Thus, the proposition “In winter, young leaves grow on trees” is false.
From two or more judgments one can draw a conclusion or inference, and this whole construction is called a syllogism. For example:
- 1st premise (judgment): “In autumn, leaves fall from the trees.”
- 2nd premise (judgment): “Now the leaves have begun to fly off the trees.”
- Conclusion (syllogism): “Autumn has come.”
Depending on the method on the basis of which the inference is made, there are two types of thinking: deductive and inductive.
Induction method. From several particular judgments a general conclusion is drawn. For example: “schoolboy Vasya doesn’t study in the summer,” “schoolboy Petya doesn’t study in the summer,” “schoolgirls Masha and Olya don’t study in the summer either.” Consequently, “schoolchildren do not study in the summer.” Induction is not a very reliable method, since an absolutely correct conclusion can be drawn only if all particular cases are taken into account, and this is difficult and sometimes impossible.
Method of deduction. In this case, reasoning is built on the basis of general premises and information given in the judgments. That is, the ideal option: one general judgment, one particular one, and the conclusion is also a private judgment. Example:
- “All schoolchildren have summer holidays.”
- “Vasya is a schoolboy.”
- “Vasya has a summer vacation.”
This is what the most basic conclusions in logical thinking look like. True, in order to draw the right conclusions, certain conditions or laws must be observed.
Laws of logic
There are four basic laws, and three of them were formulated by Aristotle:
- Law of identity. According to him, any thought expressed within the framework of logical reasoning must be identical to itself, that is, remain unchanged throughout the entire argument or dispute.
- Law of contradiction. If two statements (judgments) contradict each other, then one of them is necessarily false.
- Law of the excluded middle. Any statement can be either false or true, something third is impossible.
In the 17th century, the philosopher Leibniz supplemented these three with the fourth law of “sufficient reason.” Proof of the truth of any idea or judgment is possible only through the use of reliable arguments.
It is believed that it is enough to follow these laws, be able to correctly formulate judgments and draw conclusions, and you can solve any most complex problem. But it has now been proven that logical thinking is limited and often fails, especially when a serious problem arises that does not have one single correct solution. Abstract logical thinking is too straightforward and inflexible.
The limitations of logic were proven already in the era of Antiquity with the help of so-called paradoxes - logical problems that have no solution. And the simplest of them is the “liar paradox,” which refutes the inviolability of the third law of logic. In the 4th century BC. e. The ancient Greek philosopher Eubulides shocked supporters of logic with one phrase: “I am lying.” Is this a true or false proposition? It cannot be true, since the author himself claims that he is lying. But if the phrase “I am lying” is false, then the proposition becomes true. And logic cannot overcome this vicious circle.
But abstract-logical thinking, despite its limitations and inflexibility, is best manageable and itself “organizes the brain” very well, forcing us to adhere to strict rules in the thought process. In addition, the abstract form of thinking continues to be the highest form of cognitive activity. Therefore, the development of abstract thinking is important not only in childhood, but also in adults.
Shenzhen I/O
- Website: https://www.zachtronics.com/shenzhen-io/
One of the most in-demand specialties today is a microcontroller programmer. Shenzhen I/O invites you to try yourself as a working engineer. Assemble devices from radio components and program them to perform certain sequences of actions.
As a task, you receive design documentation, according to which you need to assemble a finished product that performs the specified functions. The developers carefully gave you a huge Talmud, called a manual. If you want to successfully complete the game, you will have to look into it throughout its entire duration. Of course, Shenzhen I/O is not a complete training in microcontroller programming. You will only be able to familiarize yourself with the basic principles and functions. In order to become a real specialist, you will have to spend much more time on training and practice. But you will be able to fully understand whether this type of activity is suitable for you.

A game that is controlled entirely by your voice. The developers have done a good job on One Hand Clapping so that you can learn to play different notes and sequences in an entertaining way, holding them for a significant amount of time. This is exactly how one gets acquainted with the basics of vocals during traditional training. You study the notes, listen to them and repeat them yourself. In general, the process of completing One Hand Clapping is no different from regular training for beginners. For the most complete immersion in the musical world, you should set the difficulty level to maximum and try to hit all the notes from beginning to end.
Peculiarities
Many people believe that there is no need for an adult to develop memory, because the foundations were laid in childhood and if the child has not been worked on, nothing can be corrected. This may partially relate to speech or thinking, but not the ability to remember and reproduce information. It can and even needs to be trained throughout life.
In young age
From 20 to 30 years of age, memory deteriorates most often due to traumatic brain injuries, past infections, unhealthy lifestyle, and traumatic factors. Alcohol abuse, chronic lack of sleep, problems in relationships and at work - all this negatively affects the functioning of the brain. To correct the situation, first of all you need to put your life in order. And then select the appropriate simulators and sets of exercises. As a rule, at this age everything is still not so advanced, and you can safely practice at home for 5-10 minutes a day.
In middle age
From 30 to 40 years old, adults begin to develop memory, most often for the purpose of self-improvement, in order to remember more and better layers of information necessary for successful advancement at work. This perfectly helps to cope with all assigned responsibilities and at the same time increases IQ, since such techniques also work to improve thought processes. For this age, we can recommend modern mnemonics like “Giordano” that are quite difficult to master.
Serious problems begin between 40 and 50 years of age. Hormonal changes occur in the body, aging processes begin, metabolism slows down, which does not have the best effect on the functioning of the brain. It's time to start developing your abilities, or every year the deterioration will only progress: the failures will become deeper and more protracted. You need to devote at least 15 minutes to this every day.
In old age
If adults were engaged in memory development in a timely manner and managed to achieve certain success in this field by the age of 50, they will feel how useful it was. Firstly, much fewer problems are found than in those who have never heard of mnemonics and neurobics. Secondly, it is an excellent prevention of senile sclerosis and marasmus, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.
If you do the exercises regularly (=daily), even after 60 you can go to the store without a grocery list and calmly dial your son or daughter’s phone number from memory. The more time you devote to this in old age, the more effective the methods used will work. But it is better to consult a doctor about their choice.
