Why do people believe in the boomerang law, which, in fact, does not exist? Explanation

There are certain phenomena in life, the mechanism of action of which is quite difficult to explain, and sometimes even impossible. You cannot escape or escape from these phenomena, no matter how much you would like to. They are the most real inevitability that representatives of the human race have to put up with. They represent a kind of contract offer with the Universe, to which, willy-nilly, every person born on Earth joins.

One of these phenomena is the boomerang law. People learned about the existence of this fundamental law even before our era. In the Bible you can read that a person will reap what he sows, and everyone will be rewarded according to his deserts.

The centuries-old wisdom of different peoples repeats this! It’s not for nothing that our ancestors argued that there is no need to dig a hole for another person, since you can fall into it yourself. And you shouldn’t spit in the well, because no one knows when exactly the need will arise to drink water from this well.

It always responds the way it sounds. And it doesn’t matter whether it resonated at the conscious or unconscious levels. The motivation doesn’t matter at all: whether it was because of envy, jealousy, anger, stupidity or compassion. Everything comes back sooner or later!

What is the boomerang law? What is the essence of this phenomenon? How does the boomerang law work in our lives? What is the boomerang law from a psychological and religious point of view? How to launch a boomerang of good? Today we will discuss the boomerang law and try to understand why the idea of justice is an integral part of human society!

Faded hope for boomerang

Surely you have heard about this situation, since it is quite common. The husband left for his young mistress. It was very difficult for my wife to bear the separation and all that could calm her down was the hope of a boomerang. She kept expecting that sooner or later “the cat’s tears would flow to the mouse.” That is, the mistress and husband will receive the full program. They will become sick and ugly, go bankrupt and separate. But years and decades pass. The husband and mistress got married, live richly and happily and raise children.

Waste of energy and wasted time

The wife was always waiting for retribution for the pain caused to her. She tried in every possible way to reassure herself that the boomerang law existed and was about to start working. However, nothing happened, and the woman felt it was unfair. Coming to this conclusion in adulthood, she realized that she had wasted her life on the useless hope of revenge.

She threw all her strength and energy into waiting, tried to collect all the information about her husband’s new family, looked for photos on the networks and waited for confirmation that the deceiver repented of what he had done. So a lot of time has passed, my personal life is not settled, my youth is gone, there is no hope for better changes.

Resentment

It is a very terrible revenge directly for the person who is obsessed with it. It sucks out all the energy, slows down the growth process, and doesn’t allow you to move back and enjoy life. A person continually returns to a situation when he was hurt, picks at his mental wounds and does not allow them to heal.

A weak hope for the boomerang law allows you to “stay afloat”, but this raft is very weak and is not able to carry it ashore or get to the place of your dreams. You have to constantly get wet, suffer and think about how to survive. Resentment and thirst for revenge are destructive feelings that negatively affect not only the mood and psyche, but also cause irreparable harm to health.

What does karma mean?

Life is like a big supermarket: take what you want, but don’t forget - the checkout is in front, you have to pay for everything.

The word “karma” or “karm” in the ancient Indian language means “action, deed, deed, retribution.” This word refers to all the actions and deeds of a person that were committed by him in the past, as well as the consequences caused by these actions.

This is a “set of boomerangs”, good or bad, launched by a person.

What goes around comes around? This simple saying can simply explain the meaning of karma.

Your current life is a balance of boomerangs that you threw before. If you want to improve, throw more good boomerangs.

Belief in the boomerang law

Let's return to the story of the woman who was abandoned by her husband and agree that the boomerang law exists. Why did she decide that he should “earn money” only in relation to her husband and mistress? What if he became active much earlier? Perhaps her grandmother did something bad, and her mother paid for it. Then the mother also committed a crime, and the abandoned wife must pay for this (after all, the law is endless and can apply to all generations). What if the woman herself once did not take her grandmother across the road? Perhaps now is the time for retribution.

Veiled thirst for revenge

From all of the above, it becomes clear that the philosophy regarding the boomerang law is not only wrong, but also harmful. It has a veiled thirst for revenge. This means that a person is not able to let go of a grudge, forget all the bad things, put himself in the position of the offender and somehow justify his action. He mistakenly believes that all mistakes must be paid for. At the same time, he forgets that there are no sinless people. We all offend someone at some time, but we don’t always even realize it. Therefore, if everyone “pays the bills,” nothing good will happen in life. The concept of “happiness” will disappear, and only retribution will remain to a greater or lesser extent.

Fate. What is this?

By definition, fate is

  1. the course of events in his life that does not depend on a person’s will.
  2. life path, all events, circumstances in life.

If you ask people on the street what fate means, then, in general, the answers will be divided into 2 groups:

First: fate is predetermined , and a person cannot do anything, and the only right decision is not to resist fate and go with the flow, resigning yourself to it.

Second: everything is in our hands , our life depends solely on how we can build it. And the building blocks in it are our daily decisions.

It’s similar to the road, and in the first case, when you drive along it and everything is predetermined: where is the overnight stop, where is the cafe, where you need to refuel the car, where and what kind of travel companions you pick up.

And in the second case, you also eat at an expensive price, but you can already choose which cafe to stop at, which gas station to refuel at, and which fellow travelers you don’t pick up, but just drive by.

In any case, fate is the road.

But you should take the time to observe life and you will understand: everything in it is interconnected. Sometimes this connection is very transparent and not so easy to notice. But if, knowing the laws of life, you take a closer look - everything is clear.

It is important to understand and learn: You create your own destiny .

You create your own destiny

This is especially clearly seen in the so-called “boomerang effect”.

Let's figure out what and how here. And exactly how to take control of your destiny.

Correct perception of the boomerang law

There is such a concept, which means the boomerang law exists. However, you should not try it on your grievances and the way people behave. There are different circumstances, different situations happen. The life of one person and all people consists of all this. It is very important to perceive any laws from the point of view of an optimist. He will never wait for someone to feel bad. On the contrary, he understands that having done good to another person, he can expect the same in relation to himself. Moreover, do not count the number of good deeds, but simply consciously increase the level of goodness. And if you help someone, the boomerang law will probably work, and someone will help you.

Now everything has changed and will there be retribution for sins?

But now everything has changed. We have changed the dimension. Now we are already in the fourth dimension and, if you believe quantum physicists, and there is no reason not to believe them, because they are always several steps ahead, we are steadily moving towards moving into the fifth dimension - the space of Love.

What has changed in connection with the issue at hand? Space is steadily shrinking. According to Hinduism, now this very “breath of Brahma” is happening, when we are getting closer to the Source that loves us and everything that exists.

Along with Space, changes occur in time. Everything here is too complicated and not particularly relevant to our topic today. Therefore I will not go deeper. I will only say that cause and effect, thought, action and the development of events with the ending that they gave rise to are now much closer to each other.

Moreover, they now bear the newly created name “direct karma”, that is, they are delayed from each other by a minimum temporary distance.

Forward movement

You should never expect that evil will return to the offender. If you leave home in a bad mood, there is a risk of ruining it for everyone around you and returning home in an even worse mood (troubles will be attracted, and there will be little to please you). You need to treat resentment in the same way. If the abandoned woman accepted and let go of the situation, she would take care of her personal life and create a second family. Instead, she spent all her energy on revenge (and not with her own hands). Therefore, you need to fight your negative feelings and emotions, abandon the philosophy of the boomerang law in its negative understanding. You need to move forward and hope that your forgiveness today will return to you in the form of happiness in all areas of your life.

Definition

The boomerang effect in psychology is the unintended consequences that occur when an argumentator tries to persuade and instead his opponent adopts the opposite position.

The definition of the concept comes from the traditional sickle-shaped weapon of the indigenous people of Australia, used for hunting particularly tricky game. The peculiarity of this weapon is that a sickle-shaped boomerang launched along a certain trajectory, even without hitting the target, always returned to the hands of its owner.

The boomerang also has the opposite effect, and if it is launched along the wrong trajectory, upon return it can kill the hunter who threw it.

Exactly the same processes were noticed in the middle of the 20th century. by media workers, when active mass propaganda provoked people only to reject the information received, accompanying this process with an effect diametrically opposite to the expected action.

At Daniel Katz's

In 1947, in the work “Psychological Barriers to Communication,” the American researcher Daniel Katz first published the opinion that excess information triggers a protective socio-psychological mechanism in the human mind, which has the effect of a barrier that prevents the absorption of propaganda.

K. Hovland, I. Janis and D. Kelly

In 1953, American psychologists K. Hovland, I. Janis and D. Kelly first registered and called the “boomerang effect,” noting that its occurrence is most likely:

  • when combining weak arguments with a negative source;
  • when the argumentator’s position is weak or unclear, causing the recipient of information to believe in the presence of a position completely opposite to the expected one;
  • with persuasion that causes aggression or unrelenting emotional arousal;
  • when the communicator is too far from the recipient’s position, which leads to the appearance of a “contrast” position.

Jack Brehm

In 1957, American psychologist Jack Brehm first drew attention to the phenomenon of a fait accompli, which, when the boomerang effect occurs, causes cognitive dissonance, leading to the fact that the event leads to a result opposite to the expected one.

As an experiment, he studied the behavior of eighth-graders forced to eat vegetables they didn’t like. As a result of the study, it was found that the greater the child’s dislike for vegetables before the experiment, the more the pressure increased, leading ultimately to the appearance of sympathy.

The result of this study by Brem was the assumption that as soon as a person begins to feel that his freedom to maintain or relate to a certain position is being limited, the stronger the psychological reactivity arises, aimed at obtaining the desired freedom and accompanied by the choice of a position diametrically opposed to expectations.

Yuri Alexandrovich Sherkovin

In 1972, the Soviet psychologist Yuri Aleksandrovich Sherkovin began studying the process, drawing attention to the periodically absent result of active media activity. In his work “Psychology of Mass Communications”, as an example of this phenomenon, the author described the work of the media to promote vaccination and the prevention of seasonal respiratory diseases.

During the work of Yu.A. Sherkovin noted that the active work of television and newspapers led to both positive results (affecting the quality of healthcare) and negative consequences (which forced people not to get vaccinated, but to hide from a possible infection or deny its danger). The Soviet psychologist characterized such a picture as the “negative influence” of the “boomerang effect,” which led to the emergence of a deviation of positive thinking in the opposite direction to the desired goals.

Explaining what happened, the doctor of psychology noted that the effectiveness of presentation largely depends on the audience’s satisfaction with the information received and its delivery in doses.

In the event of a lack of trust in the main information source or the emergence of public hostility towards it, a “boomerang effect” is triggered, leading to a sharp rejection by the audience of the propaganda imposed on it. The appearance of the “boomerang effect” is also possible in the absence of consistent argumentation on the part of the source supplying the information.

Boomerang effect in psychology

According to Yu.A. Sherkovin, preventing the emergence of the “boomerang effect” can only be done through a dosed supply of information from a reliable source that is respected by the majority of citizens with the obligatory inclusion of the masses in the processes under discussion.

A distinctive feature of the “boomerang effect,” according to Yu.A. Sherkovina is its possible side effect, in which the abundant and effective presentation of information triggers in the individual’s mind a desire to imitate what he saw. Thus, colorful television stories about crimes committed provoke the public to break the law. And media coverage of the suicide process can provoke a desire for suicide in the fragile mind of a teenager.
